Welcome to Snipe Crew College, an interactive online learning program designed specifically for the crew on a Snipe class racing sailboat.
This program was created because the crew position on a Snipe is one of the most demanding and impactful roles in one-design sailing — yet formal training resources have been scarce. Whether you are a first-time crew or an experienced racer looking to sharpen your skills, Crew College provides a structured, module-by-module curriculum that covers everything from preparation before an event to packing up after the last race.
What Crew College Was Created to Do
- Train crews systematically — from physical fitness and gear preparation through advanced racing tactics, mark roundings, and downwind technique.
- Build better communication — teach crews how to communicate clearly and effectively with their skipper in every phase of a race.
- Develop problem-solving skills — prepare crews for when things go wrong on the racecourse, because they will.
- Incorporate real-world advice — from top Snipe sailors, championship coaches, and experienced crew around the world.
- Create a community of learners — where sailors can share their knowledge and help the next generation of crew become better.
How the Program Works
Crew College consists of 10 interactive modules that follow the natural flow of a regatta — from preparation and arrival through every phase of racing to packing up and heading home. Each module includes:
- Detailed written instruction with diagrams and illustrations
- Video content from top sailing sources
- Interactive checklists and quizzes to test your knowledge
- Hot tips from experienced sailors
- Relevant racing rules for each situation
- Question boxes to save things to discuss with your skipper
Upon completing all 10 modules, you will receive a personalized diploma certifying your completion of Snipe Crew College.
